  15. <p>     DIED. BARON MARCEL BICH, 79, father of the Bic pen and other
  16. disposable yet classic examples of modern design; in Paris.
  17. The throwaway society may be anathema to environmentalists,
  18. but catering to it made millions for Bich. He began his career
  19. as a fountain-pen salesman before inventing his breakthrough
  20. product in the early 1950s: a cheap, plastic pen (the h in Bich's
  21. name was apparently just as impermanent). The same use-it-and-lose-it
  22. philosophy created disposable razors and disposable lighters.
  23. Bich's most embarrassing flop: disposable perfume atomizers.
